Another year and another call for writers! VCinema, as many reading this already know, is a growing enthusiast blog and podcast, both of which cover Asian film and aspects of Asian traditional and pop culture. Despite our name, VCinema is not strictly a film site. We currently house ten staff writers and commentators who range from professional academics and writers to casual and curious fans. Want to join us? We are currently looking for writers.
Interested? You should be an idea person who is good at having your ideas happen so they can be published as articles on our site. You should have an intimate knowledge of Asia (either the entire region or a particular country or countries) and also have a non-essentialist view of the region in order to deliver thoroughly written articles related to film, culture, travel, food, books and other aspects of Asian society. If you live in Asia or frequently travel there, this might be the job for you. Click here for an example of an article that you might produce.
Job descriptions aside, the first thing to note is that we currently do not pay writers. VCinema is not a revenue-generating site and all of us here on staff contribute in the spirit of sharing our enthusiasm for and knowledge of Asian culture. We are aware that ‘sharing’ and ‘enthusiasm’ don’t pay the rent, but we do offer a way to get your voice out to a diverse community of readers. As a writer at VCinema, you’d effectively be dipping your toes into the writing community in an enthusiast press environment without having to pay hosting fees.
To reiterate, if you’re interested in writing for VCinema, you should:
