Take a Trip to Asia with the 14th Edition of the Five Flavours Film Festival in November

2020 in the lunar horoscope is the Year of the Metal Rat. The zodiac rat has a rich imagination, is intelligent and ubiquitous so you can be sure that any film program under its patronage will lead to surprising and unusual regions of Asian cinema.
Due to sanitary restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Five Flavours will be held in a hybrid version: both in cinemas and online. However, the festival will make every effort to ensure that this unusual formula still allows the audience to experience the unique festival atmosphere. The festival will not resign from meetings, discussions and accompanying events that will provide a lively contact with contemporary Asian culture and the cinema world.
As this year many trips and travel plans had to be suspended, one of the main thematic sections of the festival will be “Journey to Asia”. The programme will include films that will allow attendees to wander around the most inaccessible parts of the region, meet fascinating people and unusual places. Cinematic travel is a good idea for those who yearn for beautiful landscapes, those who want to return to Asian bustling cities and streets or, on the contrary, find solace in the wilderness after months spent in the home office.

One of the films presented in this section will be Mekong 2030, a unique project behind which there are several directors from South East Asia: Anocha Suwichakornpong (Thailand), Anysay Keola (Laos), Sai Naw Kham (Myanmar), Kulikar Sotho (Cambodia), Pham Ngoc Lan (Vietnam). An anthology film about one of Asia’s largest rivers, with 60 million people living on its banks, Mekong 2030 is a reflection on its future and need to take care of the region’s ecosystem. It is at the same time a unique insight into the world of communities using its resources, in some cases immortalized on film for the very first time.
The Mekong Delta will of course be only one of many areas the festival will visit – as with previous years, films will take audience members to Japan, Korea and Hong Kong. Numerous surprises are being prepared which will be gradually revealed on the festival website and through social media!
The 14th Five Flavours Asian Film Festival will take place in Warsaw and online from November 25 to December 2, 2020. For updates, please follow the festival on Facebook or Twitter.
